Venue for cricket at 2028 LA Olympics was announced

Cricket 2028 will make its long -awaited comeback at the Olympic Games at the Los Angeles Olympics, marking the first appearance of the game since 1900. The last time was depicted at the Cricket Olympics, Great Britain claimed Gold by defeating France in Paris.
This time things will look different, which will include men and women competitions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in October 2023 that Cricket would be part of the 2028 Games, which highlights the global reach of the game and the ability to attach the new audience. Cricket has an estimated fan of about 2.3 billion.
Along with cricket, other sports such as flag football and squash will make their Olympic debut, while baseball/softball and lacros are ready to return.
The IOC has now confirmed that the events of cricket will be held in the fairground in Pomona, Southern California. A temporary, purpose-manufactured site will host both men and women competitions. A similar pop-up stadium was successfully used during the 2024 T20 World Cup, which was held in the United States and Caribbean. The site hosted high-profile matches, including the much-awaited India-Pakistan competition, which attracts large crowds and global audiences.
The proposed fairplace site is spread over 500 acres and is located about 50 kilometers east of Los Angeles – on one hour drive from a athletes’ village. The site has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922 and is known for the ability to accommodate large -scale events.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) welcomed the announcement of the site on its official website.
ICC President J Shah said, “We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is an important step to prepare for our game return to the Olympics.” “Although cricket is a very popular sport, it will be a great opportunity to expand traditional boundaries, when it introduces a fast book in the Olympics, in the exciting T20 format that should appeal to the new audience.”
