Pelican tab as EVP of basketball operation

New Orleans Pelican on Wednesday declared the Hall of Famer Joe Dumors as the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations.
61 -year -old Dumors, NBA Executive Vice President and Basketball Operations since 2022. He replaced David Griffin, which was fired on Monday after a six-year term, which ended with the team posting 21-61 records in 2024–25.
Pelican owner Gayle Benson said in a statement, “A famous hall of fame player, NBA champion and front office executive who is undue achievement.” “I have great respect for whatever has already been completed as a player and executive, but more importantly, I admire his character and leadership. With his huge experiences and relationships in NBA, with his strong leadership qualities, our organization and our goal of winning the NBA championship will have a tremendous impact.
“While in the league, he was involved in every aspect of basketball operation and the most effective personnel, strategy and strategy in the entire league found unique perspective and knowledge. This would benefit our team immediately because we move forward.”
Dumors will begin with Pelican on Monday.
After retiring as a player in 1999, Piston hired Dumors to lead his basketball operation and served 2000–14. He was the executive of the 2002-03 NBA executive year, one season before winning another championship from Detroit.
He worked in the front office of Sacramento Kings from 2019-22 before going to the league office.
Shreveport, La. A native of K. went to the Dumors Lake Charles at Natchitoches in McNe’s State and High School at College.
“As a Louisiana native, it is actually a full cycle moment,” Dumors said in a statement issued by Pelican. “I grew up as a monk fan and the first AAU basketball team that I played at the age of 16 was located in New Orleans, so this opportunity is very special for me on a personal level. I am eager to be a part of the Pelican organization, and build a team that proudly represent our fans in the court and our community.”
