EX-KKR Star says Dhoni left the signal, not Mike on retirement

Akash Chopra said that Dhoni would have to think about fitness, his batting position and his skills before calling the IPL future.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra reckons that MS Dhoni will have a lot to think about and consider before deciding on his IPL future. The 43-year-old, when asked about his next step, said that he was in no hurry to decide and would take a call in the coming months. Dhoni-led CSK finished what was a miserable campaign on a winning note by defeating GT on Sunday.

What does Dhoni have to think about?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that Dhoni will think about his fitness and where he bats for CSK in the future. He opined that batting between number 7 and number 9 isn’t something that the CSK captain would want. Chopra claimed that Dhoni had dropped some hints but had not served the “mic drop moment” yet.

Dhoni will also think why he should bat only between No. 7 and No. 9 because no wicketkeeper-batter bats at that number. He will also think about his contribution in wins. He has won one or two matches, but he will also wonder whether the majority of his runs are coming in wins,” Chopra said.

Further, Chopra opined that Dhoni had the most ordinary season so far as a keeper. He pointed out that the CSK stalwart had not only dropped four catches but had also conceded byes. The ex-KKR star compared Dhoni’s efforts with the gloves to that of Gilchrist’s in the latter’s final game and how a call was taken on his retirement after that.

He will also think about keeping. Sometimes the penny drops there. Adam Gilchrist dropped one or two catches, and he said he was done. Similarly, Dhoni took some incredible catches and did some stumpings, but the truth is also that he dropped four catches and conceded byes. It might have been his most ordinary season as a keeper,” Chopra observed.
