Found ball tampering and security issues challenging: bus retired ICC match referee David Boon

Just retired ICC match referee David Boon says that the issues of ball tampering and security were the biggest challenges he found “facing” during his 14 -year term. In men’s sports, Boon worked in 87 tests, 183 Odis and 119 T20 Eye and seven women’s T20I. Australia’s 64 -year -old former opener, who will join Cricket Australia (CA) as a director to continue his long -standing association with the game, looked back in international matches and backed the challenges. “I think there are challenges that you have to meet everyday. You learn something everyday. I think there are some things that are facing a little more, I found.

Boon said in a video shared by ICC on X, “When I first launched one of those (challenges) who were tampering with the ball, which I faced a lot … to accuse him of not doing the right thing right,” Boon said in a video shared by the ICC on X.

“And when there is a security and safety issue, they were extremely challenging. There is a sad thing that here in Dhaka, Bangladesh and a Christchurch, but you worked through it … you take 10 deep breaths and you go,” Boon referred to the mosque attack in New Zealand in March 2019.

Boon, whose participation with competitive cricket began as a teenager in the 1978/79 season when she made her debut for Tasmania, ending her international career with 13,386 runs in 12 years and 26 centuries.

Boon, who has worked as a national selector for 2000 to 11 years and oversee a golden period for the men’s team, when he won two ICC World Cup and two Champions Trophy titles, also shared his views on the pace of the game and called it a matter of concern.

Boon said, “I am not sure about over -rates, whether we have got that right. The pace of playing can be an issue,” Boon said.

“I hope from an administrative point of view that we have a large -scale umbrella on cricket, and every nation sees itself as the umbrella that is instead of pieces of its small turf,” Boon said.

Boon was the last of Boon as a Just-Sambhala test match match referee between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Boon said, “It is with mixed feelings that I finish my time as a match referee with ICC. It has been an incredible honor and pleasure to be a part of this journey extending for about 14 years,” Boon said.

ICC chairperson J Shah paid tribute to Boon, who will now take a position in Cricket Australia’s board.

“On behalf of the International Cricket Council, I thank David Boon for his outstanding service as an ICC match referee,” Shah said.

Shah said, “His professionalism and integrity have set a benchmark for match officials during the game.”
