World number three Carlos Alakraj on Thursday gave a blow to prepare for his French Open Title Defense, with a thigh injury from the Madrid Open. The four -time Grand Slam winner, Spaniel, maintained the problem during his Barcelona Open final defeat last Sunday by Spaniel. “I did everything that was in my hands, but didn’t improve it in the last few days,” Alakraj said at a news conference. “Things didn’t work because I wanted to be able to play here, and we have decided not to take risks.
“If I play, I was going to mess up for longer than expected … hard decisions were to be made, and I think we made it right.”
Alakraj was hoping to lift the trophy in Madrid for the third time after his 2022 and 2023 win.
The 21 -year -old did not train all week after reaching the Spanish capital on Monday.
Spaniard did not refuse to compete in the Italian Open and said he is sure he would open the French.
“I think I will definitely be in Rolland Garos and I will make every effort to be in Rome,” Alakraj said.
“To see how it has developed on Monday, there will be another test to see, and from there we will take time and evaluate how the next few weeks are going to happen and how my body is doing.”
The French Open Main Draw begins on 25 May.
