Caps F Aliaksei protas possibly out for playoff opener vs. hubs

Washington Forward EliakC Protas is unlikely to play on Monday night when the Capital opens a first -round series of its Eastern Conference against Montreal Canadines.

The 24-year-old Protas made a skate cut at the top of his left leg in a 5–3 domestic win over Chicago BlackHox on 4 April and missed the last six matches of the regular session. He was limited to 15 minutes of skating before the team’s morning skate on Monday.

Coach Spencer Carberry said that he hoped the protas at some points during the best series.

“I think, of course, I will expect him to play, and we’ll see when he is,” the carberry said. “It can happen tonight tonight. This game can be 2 (on Wednesday). We will see.”

In 76 regular -season games, Protas recorded 30 goals, 36 assistance, 66 points, 18 penalty minutes, 16:27 average ice time and a career height with a plus -40 rating, which finished third in the league.

Washington selected Prota in the third round of the 2019 NHL draft. He has 119 career points (43 goals, 76 aids) and plus -33 ratings in 245 games since 2021-22 seasons.

Capital had the best record in the Eastern Conference (51–22–9, 111 points), while Canadines (40–31–11, 91 points) earned a second wild card berth.
