The Instagram account of the stars of the Pakistan cricket team was blocked after terrorist attacks in Pahgam in India. Pakistan cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi blocked their accounts with popular actors and actresses like Hania Aamir and Ali Fazal in India. Even the Instagram account of the Olympic gold medalist Javelin thrower Arshad Madem was blocked on Thursday. The decision to block these social media accounts was taken after a terrorist strike in Pahalgam, causing many deaths – one of the most deadly attacks in the valley in recent times.
The user who tried to reach the Instagram page of Naedeem from India has met with the message: “The account is not available in India. The reason is that we have complied with a legal request to ban this material.”
Twenty -six people, most of the tourists, were killed and many were injured when terrorists set fire to a meadow near Pahlgam, a popular tourist city in South Kashmir on 22 April. The government has since been torn on Pakistani social media accounts, which is followed in India.
Earlier this week, many Pakistani YouTube channels were also banned for “stimulating and communally sensitive material, false and misleading stories and misinformation against India, its army and security agencies”.
Former cricketers Shoaib Akhtar, Basit Ali, and Shahid Afridi were among those whose Youtube accounts were stopped.
Interestingly, while their Youtube content is no longer accessible, their Instagram accounts are available opposite Naedeem.
Instagram accounts of current Pakistan cricketers including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheed Afridi are also accessible.
Other prominent Pakistani personalities, including actors Mahira Khan and Ali Zafar, have also seen their Instagram account blocked in India.
Madem, who won gold at the Paris Olympics after Indian superstar Neeraj Chopra, was later invited to attend the inauguration NC Classic Javelin event on May 24 in Bengaluru.
However, he rejected the invitation citing prior commitments.
