“Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, David Miller is more likely to score runs”: Rishabh Pant investigates cruel reality

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant’s number 7 stunt lost the franchise after a spectacular opening stand between Iden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. The pants, which were usually in number 4 place, saw the choice of Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad and David Miller in the game against Delhi’s capitals. Pants came out to bat for only two delivery before going back to LSG Dugout for a duck. While the move made ‘some understanding’ for former England cricketer Nick Knight, he does not think it paints a good picture.
“I really do not have a problem with Badoni batting in four-five,” Knight said. “I am watching some justification in it, because I think he is playing well, and I think he is more likely to score runs than Rishabh Pant. The problem is.
Pants have been one of the most off-form players of this campaign, scoring 106 runs in 9 matches of 13.25. Knight argued in the franchise that it was decided to promote other batsmen. But, for a leader, it looked like a shameful situation.
“When you look at the decision making, perhaps it makes some sense in justification. Where I do not like it, it’s not just good. Your captains are, going backwards in sliding, batting order, when you really need to step into step. That’s one that is going to your team, that is another one who takes you out.
“From that point of view, this is my problem, because I agree – Badoni is probably more likely to score runs, etc. it does not seem right.”
