James Anderson might have retired from English duty last year, but the 42-year-old still has enough venom with the ball in hand. Featuring for Lancashire in the T20 Blast, Anderson recorded figures of 3/17 in his four overs against Durham on Sunday. The veteran sent openers Alex Lees and Graham Clark inside the powerplay. He returned at the death to dismiss the dangerous Colin Ackermann to cap off a wonderful display.

Anderson had last played a T20 game in 2014, featuring in the T20 Blast final against Warwickshire. For England, his last T20 appearance came in 2009. The veteran had turned his focus to Test cricket, even dropping out of 50-over cricket. In his career spanning over 20 years, Anderson has featured in only 44 T20s, picking up 41 wickets.

The 42-year-old’s commitment to test cricket was well rewarded, finishing as England’s most capped and leading wicket taker. Anderson retired with 704 wickets in 188 Tests, the last of which came against the West Indies last year.

Since retiring, Anderson has featured sporadically in domestic cricket. He was England’s fast bowling consultant last summer but has since left the role. He featured in single County Championship game for Lancashire last year, returning with figures of 7/35. He had registered to be part of IPL 2025, but went unsold in the player auction.
