Diamondback, familiar enemy Mats to the Desert in the Desert Again

Erizona Diamondback Alec Thomas (5) is trying to steal the second by New York Mets Shortstop Francisco Lindor (12) during the ninth innings in Chess Field on May 5, 2025.

Francisco Lindor’s three-run domestic run required Mates to breathe at the breathing room on Monday, but the agility he showed to stop the possible theft in the ninth innings was a major talk after New York’s 5–4 victory over Arizona Diamondback in Phoenix.

Both teams will meet for the fifth time in eight days on Tuesday, then conclude their season series on Wednesday. He has divided the first four matches.

On Monday, Alek Thomas reached the base on an error by New York, the first Basman of New York, with a run in the ninth bottom of the ninth. After two pitches, Thomas had already flew from Edwin Diaz for the first time, and Lindor had to spread to its left so that the Catcher Francisco Alverages could be thrown and tagged Thomas. The play survived a replay review and Lindor’s Homer helped Met’s to maintain a win after stopping with a 5–1 lead in the seventh.

“Unrealistic,” Met’s manager Carlos Mendoza said. “One is not easy, overall. To leave after a big jump after the runner for AV.

Arizona’s manager Tori Lovulo liked his opportunities.

“I don’t want to remove any of my secrets,” Lovulo said about Thomas’s effort. “But we recognized that close to him, we can potentially steal some of the hideouts from him. And you know, a time and a trigger. … We just got a late jump, a super, super late jump.”

On Tuesday, the right-handed Zack Gallon (2-4, 4.93 ERA) will oppose Mates Left-Hander David Peterson (2-1, 3.06).

Alonso hit his ninth homer and added on the same Monday, raised his batting average .349 and his opes to 1.143.

“To be honest, I just feel that I am constantly in my mechanics,” Elonso said. “I still have good body control.”

Mets learned on Monday that they would be without a hitter/outfielder JC Vinkar nominated for six to eight weeks due to the correct diagonent stress of Grade 2. Brett Batty was remembered after a small stay in Triple-e-Sirrakuse to fill the roster spot and could see the time in the second and third place.

Galen made his best start in the season in a 4–2 win over Mets in New York last Thursday, when Diamondback took a rubber competition for the three-game set.

He gave one run on only two hits, excluding eight in six innings. Erizona’s lead was the only loss on Juan Soto’s one-out Homer in the sixth innings to cut the lead 2–1. Only other hit Galen permission was single in the first innings by Alonso.

At the beginning of her eight careers against Mets, Gallon picked well. It is 1-2 with 3.41 ERA and 40 strikes in 37 innings. He suffered a 7–1 defeat in September 2023, when he gave seven runs (six earned) in five innings.
