Utah Jazz on Monday hired Austin Ang, an executive of Boston Celtics, as his new chairman of basketball operations.
Ang, 43, worked for 17 years in Boston’s front office, recently as an assistant general manager, and son of Jazz’s CEO and optional governor Danny Ang.
Jazz’s Governor Ryan Smith said, “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Austin Ang as our new chairman of basketball operation.” “Austin is one of the most talented brains in NBA – 17 years of his 17 years with Celtics has given him an incredible insight into every part of an organization. I have known Austin for 15 years, and I have seen him developing as a skilled, innovative and strategic basketball executive that is ready to lead this organization.”
Justin Zanik will play his role as Utah General Manager and will work closely with Austin Ang and head coach will Hardy.
“I can’t be too excited about the bright future of this organization,” said Austin Ang. “I am eager to partner with Ryan and Ashley Smith and our other leaders within the Utah Jazz and will use my experience in building a championship-caliber organization in the last 17 years. I have lived my whole life, it is necessary to conquer teams, talent, chemistry and selflessness.
In his time with Celtics, Austin Ang also worked as a director of scouting and player personnel and served as the head coach of the NBA G League’s Main Sailtics (2009-11). His efforts helped Boston reach the final of the Eastern Conference six times and captured the 2024 NBA Championship.

Austin Ang is already a familiar name for basketball fans in Utah. As the captain of the two-time team at Byu, he appeared in 101 matches from 2003-07 and helped Cougars to win two mountain waste conference titles and make three trips to the NCAA tournament.
Jazz finished the playoffs for the third consecutive season in 2024–25 with the NBA-seven bad and franchise-the last 17–65 records.
