Shubman Gill explained to umpires with hot debate

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill on Friday faced the on-field umpires after an LBW appeal against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsman Abhishek Sharma during his IPL 2025 match. During the 14th over of SRH’s chase, Abhishek was trapped by a delivery to Prasad Krishna on his boot, and Gill appealed to a LBW, with his comrades. While the umpire was not interested in the appeal, Gill decided to challenge the call of the on-field umpire using the DRS review, causing pure chaos.
The TV Replay did not show where the ball landed; It only showed impacts and wickets. This created a series of reactions from Gill, which was not very happy with the decision.
Gill took out his frustration on the umpires, chatting with them with an animated manner, only to move his chillad friend for Abhishek.
Was Shubman Gill right to argue with umpires?
According to the rules, three major conditions for LBW decision should be met:
The ball should be pitched with either stumps, out from outside, or a full toss (no pitching requirement in this case).
The impact on the pad should suit the stumps or, if outside, the batsman should not play the shot.
The ball must be introduced to hit the stump.
In the case of full toss, if the effect is outside the line of the off stump, the batsman is not out of the LBW if they are trying to play a shot. The reason for this is that the MCC law (law 36) of cricket states that a batsman cannot be out of the LBW if the effect is out while offering a shot, whether the ball is picked or not.
If Abhishek had not offered the shot, he would have been excluded.
Keeping in mind the above situations, Gill was wrong to argue with the umpires.
This was not the first example of Gill during the match. In the first innings, Gill accused the fourth umpire after his run out.
