Carlota Siganda finished strengthened to win Meror LPGA Classic

Carlota Siganda sees on 13 June after putting the ball during the second day of LPGA Classic.

Carlota Siganda of Spain shot on 5-under-Burbar 67 Sunday to finish 16-under 272 and won the Meer LPGA Classic at Belmont, Mich.

Siganda came to the event with two previous LPGA Tour wins under her belt, won in 2016 KEB Hana Bank Championship and Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

But it had been almost a decade when the 35 -year -old man had succeeded in matching those initial career high.

“It seems clearly surprising after all these years,” Siganda said. “I knew that I could do this, but obviously once the year continues and you start growing up that you start doubting yourself.”

Spaniard has traditionally performed well in the event, ranked 17th, eighth and fifth in the last three years. He credited his host family and terrain, which brought back memories of his original Spain.

“I like to come here,” Siganda said. “It reminds me from Spain that I am from where I am in the northern part of Spain. Very similar. Many trees, peaceful. I love golf courses. Five par-5s, you can barely kill it here. So I really like it.

“And just living with the host family for about ten years with Bubba and Greatchen doesn’t feel like a tournament. Just feels really comfortable. This week we had a great stretch, and it is amazing to live and play and win it and win it.”

Siganda, who cut the US Women Open last week, left for a more slow start with a bogie on Hole 2 on Sunday, which dropped him below 10. But like the earlier era, he found his legs around the bend, to bring himself back into the mixture at the hole 6, 8, 9 and 10.

He shook a bogie at 13 to surprisingly finish 13, 17 and 18, gave him seven birdies that day.

After pocketing a shirt on par-4 number 17, she moved to a drive on hole 18 with one-stroke lead on the field.

South Korea’s Somi Lee ended his day beyond other top claimants, but fired an impressive 7-under 65 with eight birdies, defeating a base line of 14.

Siganda built 17 with his Birds under 15, then drunk her put on 18 and earned a second-edged shower and two-shot leads on the field.

For Hye-Jin Choi, the nearest pursuit, who had an eagle on Par-5 fourth, which proved to be too much to remove.

South Korean, still looking for a victory of his first career despite 23 top -10 finish, he was less than 15 to nine behind him, putting him in a strong position in the seventeenth.

But she settled on that hole for a five-shot bogie, which helped him a little on 18.

Instead, Siganda neted 18 on the 18, put Choi in an uncomfortable position of eagle, which she could not.

“Overall it was a great phase for me,” said Choi. “I had a chance to win this tournament, but there was a bogie on 17 hole, yes, I was just thinking. So I am going to try for the next tournament.”

Choi immersed the Birdi to finish 4-under 68 at 18, left it at second place at 15 pm.

Lee finished fourth in the third, while three golfer finished fourth: France’s Seleen Boutier (67), Denmark’s Nannah Chrostz Madsen (70) and Lexi Thompson (70).
