3 gear from 3 gear: The secret behind the success of Shubman Gill and Sai Reformson

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody said that the early pair of Sai Sudhrashan and captain Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans have been red-hot in IPL 2025, as they both learn how they can move through gear in an innings. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, Reformson did not get out of 108 by 61 balls – his second IPL century was with 12 fours and four sixes. He was also supported by Captain Gill, who scored 93 off 53 balls, hit three fours and seven sixes – as GT chased 200 in 19 overs, and also booked his place in the playoffs.

“I think the way they work together as an inaugural pair, they actually understand each other’s game. If someone falls behind each other if someone really takes a flight. So they cover each other and cover each other and seem to have a pattern throughout the season. And just their traditional starchplays.”

“It shows you that you are the class of the batting pair. They are the appropriate batsman who can do any storm season, but both of them have developed over time, they have learned how to move through gear. They can have only three gears in the previous years, both have five gears, which they can shift, which they can shift,” said aspankinfo.

As an early pair in IPL 2025, reformson and Gill have scored 839 runs, on average at 76.27, three with seven 50-plus stands-three of them are going beyond 100-marks. Veteran India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla feels that reforms and Gill have mastered the art of not giving a chance to capitalize on bowlers errors.

“How do you make pressure? By bowling the dot balls. They are so good, not only in this game; if you also see other games, where the pitches were a bit difficult, they are very good (at) between wickets, which really makes their life easier.”

“When you are bowling a good ball as a bowler, you look for a dot ball or wicket. They turn it into the same. And when there is a ball to hit for a limit, they never miss those opportunities.”

“I remember that a game against KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) when he used to play in the Eden Gardens. It was a difficult pitch to bat, but again Shubman Gill looked completely different at the pitch, and while the other batsmen were batting, it seemed that they were batting on a separate surface. It was the quality of these two,” they concluded.
