Bumrah was leading the team in Sydney, last time Team India played a Test match.

The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has kept its faith in Shubman Gill. As a future leader from an early age, the board has decided that at the age of 26, Gill is a suitable replacement as India’s test captain for Rohit Sharma.

Right or wrong, it is the one that BCCI has chosen. There were some options, of which Jasprit Bumrah was the most preferred. But Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul also got some shouts. Finally, the pants were considered and the role of the vice-captain was assigned, while the senior most players were ignored.

Recently, Monty Panesar specifically spoke to InsideSport, where he shared his feelings about the BCCI’s decision to appoint Gill as India’s test captain.

Why BCCI went with Shubman Gill

Panesar feels that Virat Kohli and Rohit’s retirement took BCCI on a separate route. He decided to start fresh. Gill will be the face of a new age Test team in Indian cricket, as was like Kohli. No one can forget, when he was 26 like Gill when he was named Test Captain.

“What BCCI has done, he has said,” We want a new team. ” Bring the youth; Panesar told the Insidesport.

Bumrah can be a better option

But the former English spinner feels that Bumrah may be the right choice. Keep in mind, Pacer was the captain in India’s last Test match in Sydney. And this is understood. Panesar feels that Gill should have understood Bumrah. At this time, he must have worked on his batting, which was not very good in Test cricket. And then, when he eventually took over, he would blossom as a red ball player.

“I think, maybe, he should have gone with Jaspreet Bumrah because he is still India’s best bowler and test player. It pressures Gill. He is currently an average of 36 (with bat), but I think he should an average an average of 45 to 50 on an average with that kind of talent,” The spinner said.

Can Gill Kohli go the way?

But now work is done. And Panesar feels that the BCCI will hop that Gill Kohli will go the road. Recently retired number four became one of the best batsmen in Test cricket during his captaincy era. He scored more than 60% of his total runs when he was a captain and an average of 54.80 on an average. His last average was just 46.85. You can see the difference. And the board hopes that Gill also does the same.

“This can go in any way. This may mean that you give responsibility to Gill, and you see his best batting as we saw Virat Kohli’s best. When he was the captain of India, he batted even better. I think what the Indian selectors are expecting – that we see Gill Bat better on our hands.” The panicar said.
