According to San Diego Union-Tribune, SDFC head coach Mickey Varas said, “We just have to keep an eye on how people recover from the game.” “We have no one, eg, planned rotation. We will exclude the team that we think we will get the best chance to win. This may mean that people can rest.”

The Rapids (4-4-4, 16 points) scored a 3–2 domestic win over SDFC on 12 April, when Djordje Mihailovic, Darren Yapi and Rafael Navaro scored all goals. He is the only colorado player with several goals in the season: Navaro Five, Mihleovic Five and Yapi Two.

This was the last time Rapids won a game. He followed the victory with a pair of draw, then lost 2–1 to DC United on 3 May and decided 2–0 at home for San Jose earthquake.

Rapids Midfielder Cole Baset said that the club needed a “turnaround mentality” to move forward, and how they revealed a vision on how they revealed Wednesday’s game.

Baset said, “Going to a place like San Diego, where we know they are going to try to play from behind, it is going to give us a chance to suppress them and hopefully, give us opportunities.”
