“Speed is only going to be better because he plays more”: Mayank Yadav on Zaheer Khan

Lucknow Super Giants Mentor and former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan on Sunday assured that with playing more matches in the IPL, Pacer Mayank Yadav’s bowling speed would improve. Pesar Mayank of right hand made a comeback after a prolonged pruning. He had to deal with issues related to his back and toe after making his start in the shortest format in October last year. On Sunday, Yadav returned with 4-0-40-2 figures, accounting for Rohit Sharma (12) and Hardik Pandya (5), the main base of Mumbai Indians, but bowled in a range of 140 kmph, a few clicks from a high level of 150–155 km per hour in the past.
The LSG told the media after LSG losing MI by 54 runs, “The wait is playing for a long time and after so many months to come back to the game, (this) is always an obstacle that needs to cross as a bowler,” Zaheer told the media that LSG lost the game by 54 runs from MI.
“I am happy with the way he bowled. It is important that he had to get through the game.
“He (for) (full) stayed at 20 overs. He bowled four overs. The execution is only going to be better. The speed is only better because he plays more, this is the way I am watching it.” Zaheer explained the process of return of Mayank, saying that LSG was alert to not hurry him through procedures and wanted to create a favorable environment around him.
“Even though he joined the team, we were just taking our time to rest our time around him. I know fast bowling is never easy, especially in this format when batsmen are coming very hard on you. So, this idea process was,” he said.
“I am glad that he has been found through the game. That one barrier has been crossed, I hope that we have a sufficient break for the scheduling we have and will be cured again.” Zaheer said that LSG was in constant touch with the National Cricket Academy on Mayank’s progress through his injury.
He said, “In the context of their preparation, we have consecutive communication with the NCA. I was updated, the physio was updated (and) the trainers were updated,” he said.
“There is a plan about how it comes out, what kind of programs it should follow and we are just creating the environment that is just for her to flourish.
“You have seen with him in the last one, one and a half years, when you are coming in, bowling and then with such failures it can play in your mind and at the same time you can also relax that side of things. With Mayank, we have taken that kind of approach,” Zaheer said.
Meanwhile, Zaheer said that LSG will continue to live with a combination of its foreign batsmen Nicolas Gorn, Michel Marsh and Aiden Markram.
“Top three dependence is something that has been a template of the season for us, so we want it to continue. It’s something that we need badly as a team.”
He said, “Freedom of expression is something we are talking about. We are all making that conscious effort to create the fearless approach. This is something that we are trying to get as a group,” he said.
Naman Dhir of Mumbai Indians, who hit 25 off 11 balls, said that ticking all boxes has been the reason behind his five -match winning run in this IPL.
He said, “For the last five matches, we are doing boxes (all) boxes and we are winning moments that take us to win. And I think we continue to do so,” he said.
