Mohammed Shami receives the risk of death between IPL 2025, demand for ransom of Rs 1 crore: report

Pesar Mohammed Shami of India was threatened with death through email on Sunday, and an FIR has been lodged by Cybercrime Police Station in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh. The FIR, which is with IANS, was lodged on the orders of the Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday and said that the report was lodged by Shami by his brother Haseeb and named the Rajput Sindar as the sender of threatening email.

According to the FIR, the sender also demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the cricketer, who is busy playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The FIR is registered under the following sections: Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023 Section 308 (4), Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66D and Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66E and police are investigating the case.
So far, in nine matches for SRH in IPL 2025, Shami has taken six wickets at an average of only 56.17. He was influential in India’s title-winning Champions Trophy campaign, where he took nine wickets in five matches, consisting of five-FEs against Bangladesh in his opening match in Dubai.
Earlier, the Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir also received a threat of death through email last month.
DCP (Central) V. Harsh Varanan said, “We have been informed about an alleged threat to an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated. Gautam Gambhir is already under Delhi Police Security, and we do not comment on specific security arrangements,” DCP (Central) V. Harsh Varanan said.
After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir, Gambhir was lodged with a complaint with Delhi Police after the threat of death, in which at least 26 people lost their lives and many were injured.
