Rodriguez, trained by Bob Befart, scratched with Kentki Derby

2025 Kentki Derby’s claimant Rodriguez, trained by Bob Befart, works in Churchill Downs on 30 April, 2025, Louisville, Kentki.

Rodriguez, a calf trained by Bob Befart and entered the Saturday’s Kentki Derby, was officially scratched by the race late on Thursday.

SF Racing LLC managing partner Tom Ryan announced on X, called it a “a very difficult decision” to remove the winner of the Wood Memorial. The SF racing is part of the ownership group for Rodriguez, which was seated by the 2020 Darby winner Authentic.

“With an abundance of caution, we have taken a very difficult decision to scratch our darby horses, rhodrigue,” Smith posted. “He has a small but slightly sensitive foot that will require a few more days. Therefore, we are resetting our plans and will target it for prekness.”

Prekness is scheduled in Pimlico race course in Baltimore on 17 May. This is the second jewel of the Triple Crown of Horse Racing, after the Derby and before the Belmont Stax, which will be run in the SATHARA Race Course in New York this year.

Rodriguez will now enter the race, with scratches before the ET deadline at 9 am on Friday morning. John Shirrefs-eminent Bachera finished second for journalism in Santa Anita Derby April 5. It was the first bet of the Baja and was only fourth in his career.

Journalism is widely expected to be a favorite betting for run for fast. Some handcappers believe that the Baja may struggle with journalism and other top 3-year-old children. The Baja took the lead in the prep race at the top of the stretch, before the journalism followed him before the wire.

Because Santa Anita Derby showed only five horses, Bayja got 37.5 qualifying points only to finish second. This is why someone needed to scratch to run their connection.

Baeeza, which is only qualified, which was entered into the race, will start from the 20th gate. Entries running outside Rodriguez will now take a situation in. For journalism, this means that he will break the seventh.

The new entry also means that Jockey Flavian will change the entries. He was initially prescribed to ride NeoCos. Louis Size, who ride Dornocha to win 2024 Belmont bets, will now take Mount.

Even with Rodriguez, Befurt still has a horse in the race. Citizen Bull won four in six beginnings, but Santa finished fourth in Anita. Like Rodriguez, Citizen Bull preferred to take the lead quickly, but it would be difficult for him to attract the inside post.

Befurt has trained six Kentaki Derby winners, a record that he shares with Ben Jones. However, he returns to Derby for the first time in three years. After the Madina Spirit, he was stopped from the tracks of Churchill Downs for that period, who initially won 2021 darby, failed in a post-race drug test and was later disqualified.
