IPL 2025: CSK host Kashy Punjab Kings should win in Chepuk

The Indian Premier League (IPL) moves towards a stressful climax as a league stage of 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be desperate to breathe life in a staggering campaign on Wednesday at the Punjab Kings (PBK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium. For CSK, it is just more than a competition-this is a slim playoff expectations to remove the expectations. Meanwhile, PBKs sit at the fifth place on the table of points and will see to strengthen their position with a win against an out-of-off-courts. CSK, has found himself under the table this season, managed only two of the nine matches. This selection has been an expedition with dilemmas, misforting stars and lack of impact in major moments. Connecting their crises is their unexpected struggle in Chepuk – once considered a fort, but now a place where yellow men have failed to claim dominance.

One of the biggest stories of CSK season has been a leadership reshuffle. Ruturaj Gikwad was sidelined with an elbow injury, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most prestigious franchise, was diluted. However, even Dhoni’s strategic Nau has not been able to turn the tide.

CSK issues stems largely from poor performance by their experienced players – Ravindra Jadeja lacks impact, Ravichandran Ashwin has been ineffective with balls, and Matheesha Patirana has fought with rhythm.

The silver lining for CSK has been the emergence of Ayush Matre, who affected on the debut and will be important at the top of the order. Matre’s performance with Arshdeep Singh, a fierce in power-play, can set a tone. However, the biggest threat to CSK can be Juzvendra Chahal, who has re -discovered his mojo in PBKS colors. Chahal vs Shivam Dubey promises to be one of the most compelling doubles of the evening in the middle overs.

On the batting front, inconsistency continues to plague CSK. Rachin Rabindra has not lived up to expectations at the top, and Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, and Rahul Tripathi have failed to seize middle-order options.

At the age of 43, Dhoni has shown a spark of his finishing ability, but the supporting artists have not increased on the occasion.

On the other hand, PBKS came into the game with speed. While there were moments of incompatibility in his campaign, he won five of the nine matches and appeared better balanced. The initial pair of Priyash Arya and Prabhasimran Singh looks solid, and much more will depend on their start against the bowlers of CSK’s new balls.

Skipper Shres Iyer, who bats at number 3, works in anchoring the innings and provides flexibility, while Marco Jensen’s all-round capabilities give PBK extra depth. With the ball, the team depends a lot on Arshdeep and Chahal.

While CSK will expect to apply pressure with the spin in the middle overs for Noor Ahmed, which will be full of confidence PBKS side, it will not be easy. Nothing is left to lose, CSK can be dangerous if they collectively click, but PBK looks more complete and in-form units at this level.
