Win on National D-Back expands hot streaks

James Wood hit a single homer and Josh Bell added a three-run shot as Washington Nationals defeated Erizona Diamondback 9–7 in a three-game series opener in Phoenix on Friday.

Robert Hassel III had two hits and three RBI for Washington, who have won three of their last 12 straight and nine. Nathaniel Love contributed two hits, including two-run single in the sixth innings.

Washington Starter Jake Irwin (5–1) allowed six runs on 10 hits and did not strike in five innings. Andrew Chaffin and Brad Lord Lord, after being combined for three scorer innings, allowed Kyle Finnegan to a run in the ninth before recording their 16th sev.

Pavin Smith had two hits and two RBI for Arizona, which lost eight of their previous nine matches, including three directly. There were two RBI in Garaldo Pardomo.

The Nationals carried out 8–6 after loading the hideouts with two outsiders in the sixth innings, when Lova distributed two-run-broken bat single against Juan Morilo (0–1).

Washington worked on an insurance run in the seventh when Louis Garcia Junior scored a ground-root double and scored on Hassel’s one-out single.

National started scoring with two runs in the first innings. Loades and two outsiders, Hassel scored two runs against Meril Kelly.

Arizona responded with four runs in the earlier bottom. Ketal Marte sang Pardomo in one run before scoring on the groundout of Josh Nayler. Eugenio Suarez and Smith added RBI singles to help D-Back move forward.

Citizens operated to gain an edge with four runs in the third innings. Wood hit a leadoff blast for the 16th Homer of the season and his team, who finished fourth in the last six matches.

Lowe crushed a 3–1 pitch on the center field wall for a three-run homer with a four-round walk and with Garcia. The 430 -foot explosion was Bell’s ninth Homer this season.

Arizona tied the game 6-6 with two runs at the bottom of the third. Lourdes Gurriel Junior sang in one run in one run before scoring from another on Smith’s double.

Kelly played five innings, six runs (four earned) on six hits with two walks and six strikes.

D-Back pushed a run in the ninth when Corbin Carol scored on the groundout of Paradomo.
