IPL 2025 points table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: PBKs enter the top 4 after historic win, KKR miss out in the top location

Punjab Kings (PBK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a dramatic style, defending it the least successfully in IPL history, as they defended 111. Jeet left Punjab Kings in the top four of the IPL 2025 point table, while the Kolkata Night rider drops on the sixth. KKR had a chance to go to the top of the table, chasing the target in 14.1 overs. However, the defeat leaves him with four defeats in seven matches.

There was no change in the Orange Cap and Purple Cap Leaderboard, which are still led by Nicholas Goran and Noor Ahmed. KKR bowlers Harshit Rana and Varun Chakraborty are two behind each, two behind Noor.

Chasing 112 for a win, KKR was comfortably placed at 71 for 3 in 9.1 overs, but suffered a sensational collapse to take them out for 95 in 15.1 overs. KKR lost seven wickets and then scored just 24 runs in six overs.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the chief architect of Punjab’s unfair-looking victory with outstanding figures of 4/28. He took the important wickets of Ajinkya Rahane (17), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (37), Rinku Singh (2) and Ramandeep Singh (0) for the stunning collapse of KKR – the last two in the balls in 12th.

Pacer Marco Jansen used to stick with three wickets for 17 runs, while Xavier Bartlet, Glenn Maxwell and Arshdeep Singh got one -one -KKR allowed PBK to win with the jaw of defeat.

The lowest total rescue by Chennai Super Kings against the then Kings Xi Punjab in 2009 was 116.

Sunil Narin (5) was looking for his specific explosive start, but Jensen had other views as she was cleaned by South African. It was the beginning that Punjab was looking for and it became even better as Xavier Bartlett got another opener Quinton de Kock (2) in the next over.

KKR captain Rahane organized the innings together with Raghuvanshi for some time, digging in his huge domestic and international experience.

Rahane was in his best form, when he represented a furlette Half-Wolley directly to six for six, which took his side to 55 to 2 at the end of the powerplay.

Chahal’s introduction in the eighth over tricked for PBKS as leg-spinner dropped Rahane from LBW. Chahal hit again in his next over to give PBSK some hope. He caught Raghuvanshi at a backward point by Bartlet, which bowed forward to take less catch. KKR was 72 for 4 on the half stage.

It seemed that when Venkatesh Iyer was dropped from LBW from Maxwell in the 11th over, the third umpire was refused to retain the on-field umpire’s decision after a long time.

Chahal then rolled the match on his head as he had removed the dangerous Rinku Singh (2), which was given a fox from a delivery, which was secretly between his bat and pads to Iglis to do the rest behind the stumps.

Chahal was not stopped as he rejected Ramandeep Singh (0) on the next ball that KKR was left for 76 for 76 in 11.4 overs.

Jenson joined the party as he was thrown out of Harshit Rana (0) with a small delivery, which was played by the batsman. Andre Russell has not scored double -digit figures before Tuesday’s match and was set on fire in the 14th over, scoring two sixes and one four to 16 runs.

KKR needed 17 runs out of six overs but he has only two wickets in his hand.

Vaibhav Arora survived in the five balls bowled by Vaishdeep Singh, but offered a simple catch to England in the last ball of the 15th over.

Earlier, KKR had excluded a clinical bowling show for only 111 hosts Punjab Kings – the third lowest total in this season of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.

PBK captain Shreyas Iyer’s trick batted first after winning the toss in his home ground, backfired as all his batsmen, except openers Priya Arya (22) and Prabhasimran Singh (30) fought on the house pitch.

Only three more batsmen-Nehal Wadhera (10), Shashank Singh (18) and Xavier Bartlet (11)-can register a score of two points.

Some PBKS batsmen were also guilty of careless batting and poor shot selection.

Harshit Rana (3/25) was the most successful bowler, while Varun Chakarwarthi (2/21) and Sunil Narin (2/14) stuck with two appellates.

Arya (22 off 12 balls), who hit a sensational hundred to win the PBKS match against Chennai Super Kings, set a two -fours tone of domestic side innings from Enrik Nortze in the second over.

Prabhasimran hit six and two fours in the next over by Vaibhav Arora, who scored 20 runs.

Rana was welcomed by Arya with six, but the bowler expelled Rampandeep Singh as the last laugh.

In-form pbks Captain Iyer was rejected the first ball, in which Ramandip took a surprising catch.

Ramandip raced some yards and dives the head of a full length and grabbed the ball inch above the turf.

Punjab’s poor batting show continued as Josh England (2) was bowled by Chakarwarthi as the domestic side was three wickets in the fifth over.

However, Prabhasimran was not affected by the fall of wickets as he gave Rana smack for two consecutive sixes in the sixth over. But he later pulled two balls out to become Rana’s third victim.

Ramandip also caught his third catch of the day, all of them away from Rana’s bowling, as both formed an ideal pair.

With 54 for 4 at the end of the powerplay, Punjab were clearly in trouble.
