Gujarat’s Titans spinner R Sai Kishore’s first example of such a scenario in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the first innings against Delhi Capital for the first time in the 20th over was the third example of such a scenario. Sai Kishore was introduced in the first innings final, which was for bowling before his match. He became only the third spinner to do so in the Cash-Rich League after former Sri Lankan star Sanath Jaisuria and Mumbai Indians Stalwart Rohit Sharma. After handing over the ball in the 20th innings in the first innings to bowl for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals in Durban in 2009, Jayasuria was the first to do so.
Rohit became the second to do so in 2010, while Deccan represented the Deccan Chargers against Mumbai.
Fifteen years later, Sai Kishore added his name to the list. In his sole over of the match, Kishore laid a lid at DC’s scoring rate and pierced all the important skulls of free-scoring Ashutosh Sharma.
He scored just nine runs from the over and placed DC in Bay to ensure that the DC failed to cross the 210-run mark. On delivery of penance, Kishore performed a flatter delivery to woo Ashutosh to go for Gaurav.
The unaccounted star took the air and raised the ball in the air for a long time. The substitute fielder Mahipal Lomar did not make any error and took a comfortable catch to send back Ashutosh in the dressing room on a scorching 37 (19).
With DC putting 203/8 on the board, Jose Butler took GT on his shoulders to win. It was a clinical pursuit from the hosts, in which the flow of the game was officially determined with Butler.
He remained unbeaten at 97 (54) to ensure that the GT became stronger and retrieved its place on the summit. Sherfen Rutherford, who was introduced as an impact option, was beautifully affixed with his 40 (30).
With the need of 10 runs from the final over, Mitchell Starc, DC’s last match became a victim of Hero, GT’s attack. He was disturbed for maximum and one four and as a four, GT celebrated the victory of seven wickets.
