Gautam Gambhir gets a “Sam price dand wolf” reminder after getting out of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

India captain Rohit Sharma broke all Indian cricket fans after calling time on his Test career. As everyone was dealing with the grief of Rohit’s farewell, another explosion came within a few days, in which star batter Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from the tests. Prior to Rohit and Virat, all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin also hung his shoes during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in December 2024. With a format retiring with three star players, it is safe to say that the Indian testing team is undergoing an infection phase under Head Coach Gautam Gambir.

Recently, former Indian cricketer Atul Vasan was asked about the phase of transition in the team and gave a balanced reply by mentioning Gary Kirsten and John Wright’s tenure.

“This is because a new coach is usually appointed when the team loses something. Nothing wants to fix something that is not broken. So when that new phase comes and you think you want to rebuild …

“They are very powerful in the Indian team. You know what happened. They will not allow it to happen. So you can do it like Gary Kirsten and John Wright, who made the transition smoothly.

Vasan further stated that to get the desired results, BCCI should give an independent hand to the head coach Gambhir.

“Whatever coach comes comes with dogma. You have to give him an independent hand. If you are a very strong personality, you have been given an independent hand. And if you don’t distribute, you have to stay out,” said Vasan.

He said, “It’s not that you like all of your own, but in the end, you cannot guarantee the results. There should be some balance, there should be some types of mentorship from the board.”
