Test Captain Race over? Rohit Sharma reveals big meetings before retirement in the report

India’s hunting for the next Test Captain is ending, in several reports it has been suggested that Shubman Gill is ready to succeed in the longest format for Rohit Sharma. Gill, who is already the vice-captains of India in Odis and T20I, feels that they are beating the favorite Jasprit Bumrah, except for many unaffected Bumrah. While the Bumrah Border-Gavaskar Trophy was India’s vice-captain, who performed the first test in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Ajit Aggarkar-led selection committee allegedly preferred Shubman Gill due to a record of a bad injury to Pacer.
Gill’s influential shows have also impressed several impressive shows as a leader in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign, causing confidence to baton the top-order batsman among the decision making.
According to a Times of India report, Gill held a long discussion with Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir when Titans of Gujarat arrived in the national capital for a match against Delhi capitals.
Both of them allegedly spoke for four to five hours, with the Test Captain, wisely, the biggest point of discussion. When GT took Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on 6 May, it is said that Agkar also discussed with Gill.
According to the report, the selection committee is confident of giving Gill to the long -term captaincy responsibility, influenced by his development as a leader.
Paper quoted a source as saying, “He has shown impressive leadership properties in the way GT leads, which currently topped the table in this season.”
The time of these discussions paint an interesting picture. It should be noted that Rohit Sharma left India as the test captain of India on 7 May, well after the first discussion between Gambhir and Gill in Delhi. DC vs. GT match took place in the capital on 19 April, before rumors of a test captaincy change also swam.
As Gambhir, his next assignment is the Bharat A Tour of England, where the senior team head coaches are eager to inspect the gene-next of cricketers who are knocking on the doors of the national side.
“He wants to observe some India that will be in action against Lions of England,” said an official.
