“Nobody has authority …”: Gautam Gambhir’s fierce stance on Virat Kohli, retirement of Rohit Sharma

Team India’s head coach Gautam is ready to join with a batch of serious youth, as the senior national team prepares for a 5-match test series in England. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin are no longer part of the team for the longest stalwarts, the situation gives some youth a chance to keep their hands and challenge. While Gambhir admitted that Rohit and Kohli have a difficult task, he is convinced to the next generation.

“And yes, we are without two senior players. And sometimes I believe this is an opportunity for some other people to keep their hands up and say, ok, I am ready for it. So yes, it will be difficult, but then people will put their hands up to ensure that this question was asked to me first,” Gamir said.

Gambhir cited the example of India’s successful ICC Champions Trophy, where the team at this time removed the title despite the disappearance of Bumrah, the best Paer, Jasprit in world cricket.

He said, “Champions Trophy.

When asked about Rohit and Virat’s decision to leave Test cricket, Gambhir said that retirement is a personal call that no one in the team management or selection committee has the right to force a player.

“I think, when you start the game and when you want to finish, this is a very personal decision. No one has rights,” Gambhir said.

“It is a coach, the selector, whatever be in this country, there is no right to tell someone to tell someone when retiring and when it is not retired. So it comes from within,” he said.
