American wins the first IIHF World Championship since 1933

Tage Thompson scored 2:02 in overtime to win a 1-0 win over Switzerland in the 2025 IIHF World Championship Golden Games on Sunday at Stockholm on Sunday.
The gold team is the first program of the USA since 1933.
The United States had lost 12 direct semi-final games in the tournament before defeating host Sweden 6–2 on Saturday to reach the championship game.
Team USA captured only five medals – all bronze – since 2000 (2004, 2013, 2015, 2018).
Thompson’s target scored nine points (six goals, three assistance) of the Buffalo Sabers Center in the tournament.
“This is a crazy statue,” Thompson told Nhl.com about the first gold medal of USA in 92 years. “This is something that everyone in that room took to the heart. When we arrived here, we all knew that we wanted to be a part of something special, and I think every man in that room was committed, whether you were playing power play, the top minute, or you were out of lineup or not playing at all. Everyone was positive, for each other.
Jeremy Swain of Boston Brens made 25 savings for the United States.
“This is a long time for USA hockey, and what was done to be part of that group is real,” he said. “I can’t be happy, man.”
American coach Ryan Warsophski from San Jose Shark said: “I get cow pumps thinking about it.”
The United States won the 4 nations face-off finals three months after losing 3–2 to Canada in overtime, a tournament including Sweden and Finland.
