Rohit Sharma has announced retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. Star Batter announced a decision on his Instagram story on Wednesday and made it clear that he would continue to play only one day format. Rohit Sharma retired from the T20I format after the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma has ended all speculation about his future about his future after facing question marks in Australia’s 2024-25 border Gavaskar Trophy.
On his Instagram story, Rohit wrote, “Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It is a full respect for the ears to represent his country. Thanks to all love and support for years. I will continue to represent India in ODI format.”
The 38 -year -old was India’s most vigilant testing batsman in the second half of his career, scoring 4301 runs in 67 tests and an average of 12 hundreds and 18 half a centuries of 40.57. Rohit captained India in the World Test Championship final against Australia and rescued the indifferent series against New Zealand at home and the last couple of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.

India will have a new Test captain for a five-observance series in England, with potential candidates with Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
According to sources, Shubman Gill gave Rohit Sharma an advance to be successful as the Indian cricket team Test captain. Sources told NDTV, “Shubman Gill is considered for the captain. There will be some more changes as it kickstarts the WTC cycle. The selectors will not go back. They are likely to look forward,” sources told NDTV.
