England’s great James Anderson took two wickets for Lancashire on Saturday, which was about a year with his emotional test farewell at Lord’s. The most successful fast bowler in Test history, with a record for any England cricketer at that level with his 704 wickets, Anderson had not played a competitive match against Lord Indies last June since his international swansong. The 42-year-old has since worked with the England team as a bowling advisor, while repeatedly insisted that he still had something to present as a player.

Anderson signed a new one -year deal with his original Lancashire earlier this year, but missed the first five matches of the county championship season with a calf injury.

He needed just 18 balls on Saturday, however, to return between wickets, Anderson rejected Kaleb Jewel.

After Lancashire – who started this round of matches below the second division, this season to win a championship match so far – was posted on 458 before tea on the second day, Cheers scored Old Trafford when the name of Anderson was announced to open the bowling in James Anderson End.

He made a difficult start, Anderson operated for three borders in his third over.

But switching around the wicket, he bowled Jewel with a ball, which collided over the stump.

Anderson again hit when David Lloyd overtook wicketkeeper Matty Hresht.

Veteran pesseman finished the day with two figures for 24 in five overs, with 112 with Derbyshire 112 in his first innings in stumps – a loss of 346 runs.
