“A team that did not love …”: The pre-England captain made a big difference between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli

“Surprised and sad” on sudden retirement from Virat Kohli’s longest format, former England captain Michael Vaughan said that no one has done more for Test cricket than Star Indian Batter. Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, attracting the curtain on the career of a stellar red ball. He represented India in 123 tests, scoring an average of 9,230 runs in 46.85, including 30 centuries. Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph, “There are not many Test retirements, where I am really disappointed that I will not watch the cricketer game again. But I am sad that we will not see Virat Kohli in England in England in this summer or in any way in the whites.”

“I am surprised that he is retiring now, and I am also very sad about it. In my time, more than 30 years in the game, I believe that there is no person who has done more for the test format than Virat.” Kohli led India to 40 wins in 68 Tests-any Indian captain till date-and Vaughan said that it was a 36-year-old Indian, who had brought love back to the traditional format, and the five-day game would be “a distant place” without him.

The 50 -year -old, who served as the England Test captain from 2003 to 2008, said, “When he was under captaincy a decade ago, I was worried that India was losing interest in Test cricket,” 50 -year -old said, who served as the England Test captain from 2003 to 2008.

“MS Dhoni was one of the great white balls, but felt as if he captained a test team, who did not love the format. The game needed to fall mad with Test cricket, and that is what Virat promoted as captain.

“His passion, skill, and the way he talked about Test cricket, has always been a big shot of the summit as a peak, a huge shot in hand for the format. Test cricket will be very far away without him, and there is a chance that he would lose his appeal and does not invest if he is not interested.” Vaughan described Kohli as the greatest player in all formats and called his retirement a blow to test cricket.

“His retirement is now a shock to test cricket and is very disappointing for fans – not at least in England in this summer – but I believe that he has helped to create a love for the format between the generation that will chase it, and keep the flame burning,” the former inauguration batsman wrote.

“It is impossible to compare in every era, but if you look after T20 about 20 years ago, he is almost certainly the greatest player when you consider all three formats.” Kohli’s on-field has been criticized around the aggressive personality, but Vauan feels that the Indian superstar did not have such a big ego, as has been done.

“All great players have Egos, but perhaps Virat was not as big as we thought. Perhaps family life has turned him a bit, and he just wants a normal life as he can do as he is probably going to London, where he spends a lot of time now.

“Outside that bubble they can’t really imagine that it is like being Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar, with pressure to like billions of fans on your shoulders.”
