
Zadeno Chara was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first occasion, while Alexander Mogilani finally made it in his 17th attempt.
Chara and Mogilani announced on Tuesday at Toronto in the 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame Indicators’ classes, former NHL players who were joined by women’s hockey stars Jennifer Botarill and Brianna Decker along with former NHL players who Thornton and Duncan Keith.
Chara’s 24-year career at NHL was exposed for 14 years with Boston Brins, where he earned the Stanley Cup Championship (2011) and a Noris Trophy (2008-09) as the best defenseman of the league. Native of Slovakia, 1,680 games of gram have been played, the most by any defenseman in NHL history.
Mogilani led the league to goals with 76 in 1992–93, bound for the fifth time in the same season in NHL history. From 1989-06 to 1989-06, he had 473 goals with 559 assistance in 990 matches in 16 seasons with Buffalo Sabers, Vancouver Canx, New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Along with the Russian Stanley Cup -the Olympic and World Championships are only one of the 30 players to win gold.
“I am happy to be a part of a great organization like Hockey Hall of Fame,” Mogilani said in a release. “I want to thank both my Russian and NHL team colleagues to help me receive this honor.”
Thornton was the first overall pick in the 1997 NHL entry draft by Boston Breens, where he spent eight seasons before trading with San Jose Shark for the last 15 years of his career, making the team a pioneer in scoring seven times. Their 1,528 points make them one of only 16 players in league history to compile 1,500 points or more.
“The holy doodle, I can’t believe that I am receiving this honor,” Thornton said, who also won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Olympics. “There are many people who need to thank me because I could not do it alone alone.”
Keith won three Stanley Cups with Chicago BlackHox (2010, 2013, 2015) and claimed the Noris Trophy twice (2009-10, 2013-14) as well as the Con Smith Trophy in 2015.
Keith, a native of Manitoba, said, “I was lucky to play in some really good teams with some great players.” “This is a journey with many ups and downs, and I want to thank those who helped me reach this point in my life.”
During his college career at the University of Wisconsin, the NCAA was a top player in NCAA women’s hockey as a top player in women’s hockey during his college career. Decker also played six gold medal winning US teams at the IIHF Women’s World Championship and earned Olympic gold at the 2018 Winter Games. His last game came in the 2022 Olympics.
“I didn’t think I would ever get this call,” said Decker. “Being a part of the great people making this game is really something that is special. I am very grateful.”
The first team of four times during their collegiat play days at Botoull Harvard University (1998–2003) was All-ECAC and All-American. She retired from a professional career in 2011. She also earned three Olympic gold medals, a Vinnipag native and earned MVP at the 2001 and 2004 IIHF Women’s World Championships.
“My heart is actually filled with this honor,” said Botaril. “I appreciate all those who have helped me through my career.”
Legendary Boston University coach Jack Parker and Canadian women’s hockey coach, general manager and coaching advisor Daniel Sovague were also included in the builder category. Sauvague is the first woman selected in the builder category.
Indicators were decided by one vote from the 18-member selection committee on Monday and Tuesday in Toronto.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for 10 November at Toronto.
