WTA to protect players ranking during fertility treatment

WTA, the governing body of women’s tennis, putting a rule that will protect a player’s ranking, he should undergo a reproduction process.
Fertility Protection Special Entry Ranking Rules, as it is formally called, means that players who need to take time out of seizures for processes such as eggs or fetal freezing can do so without the risk of their ranking.
Under the rule, players were ranked in the top 750 in the world and who remember at least 10 weeks of competition, will be covered by the rule. This is the same as the WTA offers a long -term injury to players coming from pregnancy.
Portia Archer, Chief Executive Officer of WTA, said, “We understand that professional athletes can face dilemma between focusing their career and starting a family, and we are committed to support WTA players as they navigate and balance the options associated with the family and family.” “After hearing from the players that the option of breeding safety provides an active way to balance family goals and career’s ambitions, we are happy that this new remedy … will contribute to our athletes to realize their full ability and make them capable of becoming parents at the time of their choice.”
Players can use their special entry ranking to enter three events in 10 weeks after returning from a process. It cannot be used in WTA 1000 events or Grand Slam tournaments.
The eight -time WTA winner Slone Stephens said that the new provision is a tremendous benefit for the players.
“I am incredibly proud of my game in recognizing the importance of fertility treatment for female athletes. For any woman, family life vs. career conversation is fine and complex,” she said. “WTA has now created a safe place for players to detect options and make the best decisions for themselves. It is really ground-breaking and will empower the future generations of this generation, and players, to continue with the game that they love without compromising.”
