The third seeded Jessica Pegula and the fourth seed of Italy Jasmine Paolini were knocked on the grass at the Berlin Open on Wednesday during the second round game.
Unplanned Russian Liadmila Samsanova required 3 hours, 21 minutes to earn 6-7 (8), 7-5, 7-6 (5). He fought two match points in the third set and took a lead of 18–2 in the aces to proceed in the quarter-finals.
Ons Jabur of Tunisia gave a comparatively easy time against Paolini with a win of 6–1, 6-3. This was Paolini’s first appearance since winning the French Open doubles title with Sara Irani of Italy on 8 June.
Eighth seed Paula Badosa won 7-6 (2), 6-3 over Emma Navaro. Belarus’ top seed Aryana Sabalenka won the first set on Rabka Masrova, Switzerland, before the wet situation was suspended.

Fifth seeded Leyla Fernandez and seventh seed Linda Noskova won the straight set win. Canada’s Fernandez won 6-3, 6–4 over Spain’s Christina Buxa, while Noskova of Czech Republic recorded nine aces in the 6–1, 6-3 victory over Franceska Jones, Great Britain.
The Dayana Yastrimca of Ukraine also proceeded with 6–2, 2-6, 6–4 win on Croatia’s Antonia Rozik.
