Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid on Wednesday cited the cases of players who joined the new franchise and as a result of lack of familiarity with circumstances as a commendable reason for teams complaining about lack of home benefits in this IPL. Several teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders expressed unhappiness about the nature of the pitches at their respective domestic places.
“I think it really depends on the ground from the ground. I am not really sure what the specific franchises wanted from their curator, so to speak, but the benefits of the house, generally, the teams are new even after a big auction,” Drawid said on the eve of RR’s match against RCB.
Dravid recognized his arguments by giving examples of players like RR’s Nitish Rana and RCB’s Phil Salat, which joined teams after last year’s mega auction.
“This is the first year after a large auction, so even for a lot of players, even if they can be your home players, they are playing for those teams or those grounds for the first time. The former Indian captain said that the new set of players would be rejected more in the circumstances with the progress of the season.
