“Was not to come to RCB”: Rajat Patidar’s big revelation on franchise’s ‘Broken Promise’

Rajat Patidar, who is leading the royal challenges of this IPL, re -witnessed the 2022 season when he was “depressed” and “anger”, despite assurances, after being ignored by the franchise, it was called only an injury replacement. Patidar also admitted that he was pressurized by the unqualified Virat Kohli’s captaincy before IPL 2025, but legendary support words pacified him. Patidar has been one of the mainstays of the middle order of RCB this season, scoring 239 runs in 11 matches, as the Southern franchise is aimed at a young woman’s men’s IPL title.
“I received a message (beyond the mega auction for IPL 2022) that you should be ready … that we would choose you. I hoped that I would get another chance (to play for RCB). But I was not selected at the mega auction. I was a little sad,” said Patidar on an RCB podcast.
However, 31 -year -old Madhya Pradesh cricketer did not have to wait long to wear RCB colors as his state’s companions were injured. But Patidars were not really keen to return to Bengaluru, knowing that he would rarely get a chance to play in a star-staded lineup.
“I started playing in my local matches in Indore (after not getting up in the auction). Then, I received a call that ‘we are choosing you as a replacement for Luvunith Sisodia, who was injured.
“I was not angry. It was so, if they didn’t pick me up (during the auction), I would not get it (to play). I was angry for a while, but then I was normal,” said Patidar, who had led the Patidar who led the 2024-25 Syed Mashtak Ali Trophy in Madhya Pradesh.
One side reins are handed over to the reins, in which the iconic Kohli pressured the Patidar in his ranks, but the support of the star batter gave him confidence.
“I had a lot of questions, such as a lot of (big players) in the team. Virat Kohli is such a big player, how will you under him. I know how helpful he is about this (captaincy change).
“I knew that I have full support of them. As I said, this is a learning for me, it is an opportunity for me. So, I will learn as much from him as I can learn from him. Because no one has the experience and idea that he has in every role – it is batting, as a person and as a captain.”
The day he was unveiled, as the RCB skipper was one of the most memorable days for Patidar, and he says he became “completely empty”, receiving a plaque from Kohli.
“I have seen him (Kohli) ever since I started watching TV, in the IPL, out of the field, in the Indian team … to take that thing (captaincy plaque) that he has been doing for so many years … and he has been giving me with his hands.
“While he was giving me, I was a little worried about taking it. I was completely empty about how to take it. He asked me to catch it. I held it. After that, I was looking at him, what should I do?” Then he said that some words like, ‘You deserve it, you earned it’. So I felt a little right. I mean when they told me this, I became normal in that situation. I learn from him as much as possible. So I think it was a special moment… the way they introduced me to so many fans. ,
