VVS Laxman becomes the head coach of temporary India in the absence of Gautam Gambhir

Since December 2021, VVS Laxman has been the head of NCA and also serves as the head coach of India A and Under -19 teams.

VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence (previously known as the National Cricket Academy), will oversee the India cricket team in the absence of Gautam Gambhir. Earlier this week, the Indian head coach returned home to tend to his ailing mother.

Laxman to take over Gambhir

Currently, Shubman Gill’s Team India is playing a 4-day intra-squad match in Beckenham. And Laxman, who also serves as the head coach of the India U19 and A teams, is already present in England. According to RevSportz, Laxman will take over Gambhir’s role until he returns to England.

Laxman is currently overseeing India’s U19 team, which has stars like Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The U19 team is to play 7 matches against the England U19 team from June 17 to July 23. This means that Laxman’s presence in England coincided with Team India.

Since he’s already served as India’s head coach on a temporary basis before and even worked with the majority of the players as head of the NCA, India A, and the U19 team, overseeing the senior India team won’t be an issue for Laxman. As for Gambhir’s return, it’s expected that he’ll return by June 20, the day that the India vs England 1st Test starts in Birmingham.
