Virat Kohli’s uncertainty ends on Monday around the test career as the prestigious batsman announced his retirement with a emotional post on Instagram with the longest format of the game. When the news started on social media earlier, it was also reported that the BCCI had urged Kohli to reconsider his decision. However, Virat decided to call it Quits, saying that it was the right time for him to end a great chapter of his career. As the news leads the cricket world from the storm, an old interview by Kohli has revived the Internet. In the interview, Kohli can be seen speaking about his ambitions in Test cricket, stating that he wants to reach 10,000 runs for the longest game.

“I do not keep a record track at all. When I score a century in a match, I later come to know that it was the fastest for 10 centuries or something like that. So I only know about it after the match. Before the match, before the match, I focus on, as I have five innings, and if I score three more centuries, I would set a record.” I don’t think my aim is to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, and this is something I really want to achieve, “Kohli said in a 2013 interview in ‘Seedhi Baat’.

However, Kohli finished his Test career 770 runs is shy with a milestone of 10,000 Test runs, in recent years a slowdown has been faced, which has also seen its average in the format drop below 50. In fact, it is the lowest in more than a decade.

Kohli scored just 190 runs in five Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 against Australia, out of which more than half came in the same innings when he hit a century in the first Test in Perth.

The batsman wanted to reach a milestone of 10,000 runs in Test cricket, as he himself said that he was 12 years ago. But that dream remained incomplete.
