According to a report by the Indian Express, Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli told the BCCI that he wishes to retire from Test cricket before the England Test series, but top officials have asked him to reconsider his decision. Kohli’s decision came only a few days after Rohit Sharma decided to retire from Test cricket. According to media reports, the selectors will hold a few days to decide the team for the five -match testing series against England and if both Virat and Rohit are not available, they will have a big job in hand. The report further claimed that Kohli is considering retirement from the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where his disappointing show criticized him a lot.
Sources said, “They have made up their minds and informed the board that they are moving beyond Test cricket. The BCCI has urged them to reconsider as the significant England visit. He is yet to go back to the request,” sources told the Indian Express.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma on Wednesday declared his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect, ended the tireless speculation in the longest format about his future and left India in the need of a new captain for the upcoming five -match series against England.
After the retirement already retired from T20 International after India, leading for the World Cup Trophy last year, Rohit will now be seen captaining the national team in the ODI format only.
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It is a complete honor to represent my country in the whites.
He posted on Instagram with a photo of his Test cap after PTI’s newsbrake, “Thanks for all love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India.”
The BCCI also confirmed that Rohit would remain ODI captain.
BCCI posted on ‘X’, “Thank you, the end of an era in Captain. IMRO45 to bid cricket to test. He will continue to lead India in Odis. We are proud of you, we are proud of you, Hitman,” BCCI posted on ‘X’.
