This was just a prestigious evening when Virat Kohli put his first IPL trophy after waiting for 18 years. PBKS failed to chase 191 runs in the final, and lost by 6 runs. For now, nothing else matters, but the 36 -year -old finally won the only title, he did not have.
With all the boxes being tickled for Virat, some would have been feared retirement. But then, during an interview with Matthew Hayden after the match, the superstar removed him. Kohli said on Star Sports, “This win is as much for fans as it is for the team. It has been 18 long years. I have given this team my youth, prime and experience. I have tried to win it every season, I have been given everything that I have.”
“Finally this is an incredible feeling. Never thought that the day would not come, after the bowling of the last ball I was recovered from emotions. I gave every ounce of my energy and this is a wonderful feeling.”
Hayden further asked him where he rates the victory of this title with all other people who are in his cabinet. “Okay, that’s fine, if I have to be honest. As I said, I have given everything that I have done for the last 18 years. I have been loyal to this team, no matter what happens. I had moments where I thought otherwise, but I clung to this team. I was standing behind me, they were standing behind me.
“And I always dreamed of winning it with them. And it is more special than winning it with someone else because my heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore. And as I said, this is the team that I am going to play till the last day I am going to play IPL. So it’s perfectly fine.”
An emotional Virat Kohli just did not stop there. He clarified, he will remain in RCB by the end of the IPL career. And he just removed, that retirement is still far away. “As a player, you grind for something, and it is a very high intensity, high quality tournament, which is a lot of value in world cricket today. And I am someone who wants to win big tournaments, big moments, and it was disappeared,” Kohli said.
“Okay, I have an opportunity to play this game for many years. So we know a last date for our career, as long as I hang my shoes, I want to sit at home and say that I gave it everything that I had. So I look for ways to improve.”
“I can’t play as an impact player, I want to feel 20 overs and make an impact in the field. This is the kind of player. And God has blessed me with talent, in that perspective.
