Travis Hunter has emphasized his desire to play both comprehensive receiver and cornerback in NFL, and it appears that New York veterans are ready to create the desire that if the Hiseman Trophy winner falls near them at number 3 in the next week’s NFL draft.
Speaking during his annual pre-draft news conference on Wednesday, New York General Manager Joe Shon said that the veteran ball would not be afraid to line Hunter on both sides of the ball.
Scone said “I would not doubt the child. He is that type of athlete. He had that type of production, in a game he plays the snap, he does not sit down, does not go down, goes up, gets a water drink and comes back to the field.
“So, he has got that type of athleticism, he has got the right mindset, he is a great child. Therefore, I will not doubt him.”
While NFL officials have said that Hunter could develop as a Pro Bowl player under any circumstances, Hunter made headlines in the first week when he said that he would never play football again if a team told him that he could not play both comprehensive receiver and cornerback.
“Because I am doing it my whole life,” Hunter told CBS Sports, “and I like to stay on the football field. I think I can dominate every side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing so.”
Of course, in relation to Hunter, both ways of concern arise from high workload. Last year with Colorado buffalo, Hunter played in more than 84 percent of Snaps of the team. According to ESPN, for perspective, cornerback Dan Jackson played 48% of the total snaps of Carolina Panthers in the previous season, which stood the most in NFL.
“We’re looking at workloads and yards every day,” Shaun said, “and then what we have to settle for me is a mental part of it, because crime is very difficult to learn and then defense on a weekly basis, it’s not college, ‘Hey, these are our basic sports, these are our basic defense and we are against Kansas.
“We have a lot of week-by-week matchup-type items for our coaches that our coaches are doing. So how much you can handle mentally, where you can go and execute it and they can trust you to do your work.”
If Hunter is also available at number 3 then it is yet to be seen. Many experts believe that Tenasy is an option for Cleveland Brown after Tennseie is first estimated to select quarterback camps with overall pick. What is more, New York will also need to decide whether the Hunter top is a better option for the available quarterback. However, Scone said that the veterans with Tommy Davito with Russell Wilson and Jemis Winston to the roster to choose a QB on number 3 “it is not mandatory”.
