Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakarwarthi has been fined 25 percent of his match fees and has been assigned a demerit point to dissolve the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings. The CSK, who is out of the playoff race, defeated the home team by two wickets in the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, as well as Ajinkya Rahane’s hopes of making the top four effectively.

The IPL statement said without specifying the incident, “Varun Chakarwarthi accepted the crime of level 1 under Article 2.5 and accepted the approval of the match referee. For violations of the code of conduct, the decision of the match referee is final and binding.”

Article 2.5 is used by a player by any “language, action or gesture and directs a batsman on his dismissal, with the ability to provoke an aggressive reaction from the rejected batsman”.

Chakraborty, who took two wickets, gestured to the Developed Bravis to leave the field after rejecting him at the age of 52. South African half -century played an important role in winning the competition in CSK.

KKR will play the remaining two league matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 10 May and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 17, away from home.
