Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takoka was long to record five stops including a game-year in the 83rd minute, as Whitcaps held a Western conference on Saturday for a scorer draw with hosts Austin FC in a Western Conference match.
The competition was played in hot summer as Whitcaps (8–1-4, 28 points) extended their MLS Streak without loss of eight matches. Meanwhile, Austin has played five direct matches without winning, but at least scored with Vancouver, which sits over the West Standing.
The clean sheet was the sixth of the season of Takoca. Austin FC Keeper Brad Stuver was also solid, stopping two shots to earn his sixth shutout of the year.
Varde (5-6–3, 18 digits) scored all three shots in the first half, but there was nothing to show for it.
Usman Bookri had a scoring opportunity in the third minute of the match that was easily provoked by Takoca. Bookari again tested Takoca in the 28th minute, taking a dead target on the goal with his head after a corner kick from Owen Wolf, but Takoca removed the shot.
Brandon Vazakwez tried Takoca with another header in the 43rd minute after one corner of Wolf, which was rescued by the goalkeeper of whitcaps.
Austin attacked the attack after a break, Besar Sabovic ripped a right -foot shot from Takoca in the 48th minute, yet another corner kick from Wolf.
Whitakaps finally got a shot on the target in the 73rd minute, when Brian White, who started the weekend for the MLS lead in scored goals (eight), was stopped by Stuver on a low percentage attempt. Sebastian Berhalter then gave it to the 78th minute, but the shot was easily snatched by Austin keeper.
Bookri’s third – and perhaps he had the best chance in the 83rd minute, but Takoca rescued and put his final seal on the draw.
