“Vaishwas Suryavanshi should not be praised in the sky”: Sunil Gavaskar’s advice is correct

Rajasthan Royals batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi impressed one and all against Gujarat Titans in his IPL 2025 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur in late April. He broke the ton in 35 balls, became the fastest Indian to achieve achievement in IPL history. Southpo scored 101 off 38 balls, with 11 sixes with the help of 7 fours. It was a wonderful knock with Suryavanshi and left the cricket world in astonishment with its talent. The 14 -year -old batsman’s knock came in the T20 tournament only in the fourth appearance.

While the entire cricket world was busy praising Southpow, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar advised not to praise the batsman and let him learn and let him play his game.

In particular, Suryavanshi hogged the limelight after being purchased by Rajasthan Royals for a huge amount of Rs 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 auction held in November last year. He was then 13 years old.

“Not at all, not at all. I mean, look-when he entered the auction, he had already scored a hundred against Australia in a young trial, and he was against a very good attack. He was against an international team for a 13-year-old to score a hundred against an international team, although he did not have a top side, yet shows talented to the child.

“I think he is going to develop his game even more. Sitting with Rahul Dravid, he will learn how to make his innings angry – he is only going to be better and better. I believe that he is someone who should not praise the sky.

“And in this case, we just feel, even in our first game, with the first ball, he hit it for six. Now, there should be nothing that he thinks should live every time. The experienced bowlers will think, ‘Ah, he wants to hit the first ball for six?” They will reduce it, and then he can get out.

“But in fact, whoever scores 50 or 60 in a T20 match has done well. It is absolutely spectacular to get a hundred at this level, especially against the quality of the bowlers he is facing today – is a literally the best in the world,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar’s advice turned out to be correct with Suryavanshi falling for a two -ball duck during RR’s match vs. MI in Jaipur. Deepak Char performed a full delivery and Suryavanshi broke it into the fielder’s hands in the mid-on.
