Vaibhav Suryavanshi Reveals Gill Inspiration Behind Record Breaking Knock

After his record breaking knock, Vaibhav Suryavanshi revealed that he was inspired by India’s captain Shubman Gill.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has revealed that he was inspired by India cricket team captain Shubman Gill which helped him shatter records on Saturday. The 14-year-old created history by smashing the fastest century in Youth ODIs history and went on to finish with a 143-run knock to his name. Following the knock, Suryavanshi has revealed how watching Gill bat the other day boosted his confidence and spilt the beans on what his next goal is.

Gill the reason behind Suryavanshi’s record knock?

In a video uploaded by BCCI on social media, the 14-year-old revealed that he was inspired by captain Gill. He said that the Punjab batter did not slack despite scoring a century and a double ton and took the team forward. Vaibhav said that he regretted his departure in the U19 game for 143 runs, explaining that he had a lot of time on his hands but one shot where couldn’t give his 100% costed him his innings.

I got a lot of inspiration from him (Gill), because I saw the game. Even after scoring 100 and 200, he kept at it and he took the team forward. I had in my mind that I could have played for longer because i had a lot of time left. There were 20 overs after that as well. There was one shot which I couldn’t give my 100% due to which I got out. Otherwise, I will try to play for longer like him (Gill),” Suryavanshi said.

Asked what’s next, Vaibhav revealed that a double ton was his next goal. The 14-year-old said that he will try to play the full 50 overs in the next game, adding that the more he scores, the more benefit for the team. India U19 have already won the series against England U19, with one more match left to go.

Suryavanshi took just 52 deliveries to get to the triple figure mark in the 4th youth ODI against England U19. His knock was studded with 14 fours and 10 sixes before he was sent packing by Ben Mayes. England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the contest. Vaibhav narrowly fell short of a well-deserved 150 as he was dismissed for 143 runs.
