‘Unexpected expect’: Sunil Gavaskar compared Rishabh Pant with Carlos Alakraj

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has drawn a unique parallel between Rishabh Pant and Spanish tennis star Carlos Alakraj, both compared to bringing unpredictory and enthusiasm in his respective sports. While visiting All England Lawn Tennis Club during the ongoing Wimbledon Championship, Gavaskar stated the similarities between the two athletes.Gavaskar told Star Sports, “Alakraj is moving so well, and has found all the shots in the book. He can be a showman sometimes when you feel that he is trying those drop shots to finish this point,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.“But this is what people come to see, this is like seeing Rishabh Pant. With pants, you have to expect unexpected. Similarly, with Alakraj, you expect unexpected. That’s what makes him so exciting,” he said.In England, several former and current cricketers have been seen enjoying tennis at the prestigious site, with Wimbledon with India’s five-observance series in England.

Gavaskar also revealed that he prefers Wimbledon to visit Lord’s – until India is playing at the historic cricket ground. He said, “Every time I am in England around this time, I go to Wimbledon, but I hardly go to Lord if India is not playing there. So yes, someone can say that I can come here more often here.Speaking about his pick for the title, Gavaskar said, “I would like to win Djokovic because it will be his 25th Grand Slam title. Someone has never won 25 Majors, so it will be fantastic. My heart says Djokovic, but I think my mind says Alakraj.”
Recently retired Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli also expressed his praise for Novak Djokovic and expected to win the Wimbledon Crown.Kohli said about Djokovic, “We have exchanged notes and have been kind and kind to stay in contact.”“So, I would say that I want Novak and Carlos to be in the finals, and ideally to win it for Novak, because it would be a tremendous achievement for him at this stage of his career.“In conversation about being the greatest of all time, he would be right with someone else, if not number one, with the maximum number of Grand Slam titles. He deserves it. Given the amount of hard work, I really hope that he wins.”
