UFC’s Dana White: John Jones retires, Tom Aspinol undisputed champion

John Jones, a legend, retired and interim heavyweight champion in mixed martial arts has been unquestionably called title holder, UFC President and CEO Dana White.
“John Jones called us last night and retired,” White said during a press conference in Azerbaijan, where UFC Fight Night was held. “John Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinol is a heavyweight champion of UFC.”
Jones, who turned 38 years old on July 19, has compiled 28-1 records (11 TKOS) to capture UFC titles in Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight. He was in line for a highly anticipated integration bout with 32 -year -old aspinol, which became the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion in November 2023, when an injured jones could not fight.
The British Aspinol (15-3 MMA, 11 TKOS, 1 K0, 8-1 UFC) posted a message on Instagram after the announcement of White.
“For you fans. It’s time to achieve this heavyweight division,” 32 -year -old Espinol wrote. “An active undeniable champion.”
Jones last won the third round of TKO on Stipe Miosic on November 16, 2024. Jones has won six consecutive matches since there was no competition with Daniel Cormier on July 29, 2017.
White’s announcement fought his words of Jones on Thursday when he appeared on the “Full Sand” podcast.
“I don’t want to say that I have retired because my blood is fighting,” Jones said on podcast according to several media reports. “Right now, I can really care about fighting. I am doing it my full life at a very high level and when itching comes back – and if it comes back – I will do it with my full heart, I will do it best in my abilities.”
“I think I will fight again. Where the future of fighter games is going on, it’s going to be amazing when I pop up back.”
Jones has a checker history out of the octagon, where he became the youngest UFC title holder with a win over the Mauricio Rua for a crown of 205 pounds at the age of 23. Jones, which is 16–0 in the UFC title bouts, dealt with legal issues, was a one-year-old suspension in 2016 for positive testing for drugs performing in 2016-resulting in the dispute.
