Announcement that shocked the world
All the great test batsmen of India have announced their retirement at the age of 39–40 years. However, Virat Kohli, a supreme fit, surprised everyone when his long -time ally Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket in 36. Whereas after a disastrous border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, the Test team had a lot of rumors in place of Kohli, where Kohli was rejected eight times in nine innings.
However, with the India vs England Test series in June, everyone hoped that it would continue and amend. Kohli decided to give up instead. Shastri said that it is not easy to give 100% at all times, and it can cause burnout. Kohli played with passion and 100% commitment as he was bowling all the overs to bat as he was scoring all the runs. However, Shastri was still surprised by Kohli’s decision.
“This is a lot of participation, I think if he does not rest, then there is going to be a burnout somewhere. If he is not in the compartment how much he wants to play in the format, then bound to be a burnout. Virat surprised me because I felt that I felt that he felt that he had at least two-three years of Test match cricket,” Shastri said.
Virat Kohli’s legacy
While Virat Kohli cannot be in the same league in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid or Ricky Ponting in terms of runs and data, he crossed all of them. Kohli again made Test cricket great when fans were turning their backs on tests for T20. But with his passion, aggression and advocacy, Kohli ruled the flame, became the real brand ambassador of Test cricket in the world.
As the captain of the India Test team, he surpassed all the previous captains, giving India to join the tests. He crossed all the previous Indian captains, making India win 40 out of 68 matches. His winning percentage of 58.82 is far ahead of India. He is only behind Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting. Shastri appreciated Kohli’s achievements and said that he has nothing else.
“He has done everything. He is captaining the sides, he has won the World Cup, he himself won an under -19 World Cup. I mean, there is nothing to achieve it,” Shastri said.
