Tim Southee converted James Anderson into England’s ‘Special Skill Advisor’

Tim Southee retired from Test cricket on December 2024, after the 2–1 series defeat in England, completed his career with 391 Test wickets.
Former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has replaced James Anderson in the England camp as a specialist skills consultant on a short-term basis. Southee will work with the English side until the conclusion of England’s five-match Test series against India.
Southee’s first assignment will see the one-off Test against Zimbabwe next week, followed by the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. After the India series ends on August 4, he will link up with Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred. It remains to be seen what kind of impact Southee brings in the English camp for the upcoming fixtures.

“With his vast experience of playing in a wide range of conditions around the world and across all formats, he brings valuable insight and knowledge to the players. Following his consultancy stint, he will resume playing duties in The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
