Thomas Byorn-Darren Clarke Duo Lead in TPC Wisconsin

Thomas Byrne shaped his shot during the 2025 Principal Charity Classic at Wakonda Club in Des Moines on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Thomas Byorn and Darren Clarke jointly jointly jointly jointly jointly shot to shoot at the American Family Insurance Championships in Madison, WIS.

Friday’s four ball (best ball) format, which takes a lower score of pair of two golfers on each hole, is predetermined for the spread of low scores, and in fact, every coupling of golfers competed on the day.

Clarke of Northern Ireland, and Byorn of Denmark, were a dynamic pair on the first day of the onset of the tournament at TPC Visconsin, with each accounting for seven shovedies in 12 separate holes.

Clarke said, “Surely it became very easy for me to go there so well to learn the game of Thomas and free it today.” “I really enjoy playing with him because I know that he is there if I am messing up, and so I try to stay there for him. We have it, it’s like a ‘no sorry’ policy. We are trying both of us as much as we can and we both have to kill very good shots and take maximum advantage of our opportunities today.”

Each mixed on separate warm stripes, drain the burdies on four straight holes. Overall, Clarke no. Pocket Berdies on 2, 4-7, 9 and 14. Byorn had Burdies in Nos 4-5, 11 and 15–18.

Byorn said, “I think we were making a lot of sounds today and when we were done the right thing,” Byorn said. “When we had two balls in the fair or two balls on green, we could be aggressive and that’s why we normally put as much as possible, and we could take a little more flags.”

Seven couple are within four strokes of leaders.

Richard Green and Mark Hannby’s Australian Twosomes are two behind the 10-under 61, good for the second place. Hansbi had a thick day of both, with a pair of bogies, but six green shovedies put them in controversy.

“I think both of us really enjoy the golf course, and the situations are beautiful,” Green said. “It is very fun to play and hit the right shots required on this golf course. I felt comfortably there.”

South Africa’s defending champion Erni Els and his partner Tim Heron have finished third with Thailand’s Thongchai Zaidi and Australia’s Brendon Jones at 9 pm.

The 8th place is Australian Cameron Percy and David Branson, fellow Australian Stuart Apple and Michael Wright, South Korea’s KJ Choi and Japan’s herouki Fujita and American Jean Sawyers and Glenn Day.

Saturday will change things with a scuffle format – golfer chooses the best lie of two shoots that they take from each place until the hole is completed – the championship before returning to the best ball format on Sunday.
