Former India head coach Ravi Shastri suggested that India should relax Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming trials against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, after India’s five-wicket defeat in Headingley, where Bumrah took five wickets. The current plan of the team, as stated by head coach Gautam Gambhir, has to play in only three of the five tests for workload management.Bumrah recorded the match figures of 5–140 out of 43.4 overs in the Heddingley Test, in which all his wickets came in the first innings.Shastri said on Sky Sports, “If he was watching comfortably, you may have to think twice. If you do not have and then go down 2-0 it can be a difficult task.”

Other Indian Seamers – Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, and Prasad Krishna – were struggling with a joint figures of 9-482 in 92 overs, which could influence the decision to play Bumrah in a second trial in Edgbaston starting on 2 July.“This will be a difficult pill for India to swallow. You do not come in such a situation and blow it from there. He had a chance to get England out of the competition and determine the words,” Shastri commented.“They have to learn and require more bottles than the tail, for them to be stubborn and put a price tag on their wickets. He did not have that on-field aura of Rohit and (Virat Kohli).“But India lost to two things, Gill cannot be controlled by Gill-the boys have collapsed. I worry.
